The team found that adding a small amount of 1-methylimidazole changes how the crystals grow, letting them steer the material toward different shapes and structures.
This allows to make metal-organic framework particles with either leaf-like or more compact crystal forms, and they checked the results with several lab tests. The main goal was not just to change the material’s shape, but to make it better at trapping lipase, an enzyme used in chemical reactions.
What they found was that the middle version, with a mix of the two crystal forms, held the enzyme best and gave the strongest activity. In simple terms, they showed that by adjusting the mix of ingredients in water, they could make a cleaner process and a better host for enzymes.
